After twenty years of working in the cosmetics industry, Chris Leivian started Gunpowder ‘n Gloss, her own makeup line inspired by her country roots. Over the course of two years, I designed her brand identity, website, product photography, tradeshow booth, social media content, and packaging. Her signature lip gloss comes in a compostable letterpress box that folds into a triangle shape without glue. The triangle shape allows more boxes to fit in one shipping box for sustainability. I’m the most proud of her dedication to representation. Compared to other country-themed brands, Chris features more people of color than all combined. Her tagline “Cosmetics for the Tuff and Pretty” was intentionally worded to resonate with different gender identities and she’s intentional about featuring models of different shapes and sizes.
